A train is stopped at the Eldora Railroad Station at the base of Spencer Mountain in Boulder County, Colorado (Denver, Boulder, & Western Railroad Company) . A large cloud of white smoke puffs from the train's engine.

Colorado Midland Railroad Explosion
Date: 1896
Photographer: Boyce, H. W.
Group of men studying remains of railroad car in yard with other cars behind and on trestle above. Car markings include “Pikes Peak Route”, “Colorado Midland” “Burlington Route” and “Southern Pacific Route”. "H.W. Boyce, 1896 - Basalt, Colo" printed on bottom of card. Caption on back reads "What was left of No. 35 after she blew up on August 15, 1896. in the Basalt yards, where she was being used in switcher service. At 10:00 A.M., Engineer Danielson and his fireman parked her opposite the coal chute and went to eat lunch; the fireman was in the switch shanty and Danielson at the station when she blew up with a bang that could be heard for miles. After the junk stopped falling, they found a ton or two of boiler in a man's dooryard three blocks away, the firebox on the roundhouse tracks on the other side of the coal chutes and the front end not far from the wheels. A man and a little girl in different parts of town were hit but not badly injured by flying pieces."

The Hospital Corps of the Deputy Army, there to suppress the Cripple Creek Strike of 1894, pose outdoors at Beaver Park, Teller County, Colorado. The men, which include Dr. Tucker, stand in a camp and field hospital of the Deputy Army, near pitched tents. Two men hold wood and canvas stretchers. The men wear white armbands and hats.
