Colorado Midland Railroad Explosion

Car markings include “Pikes Peak Route”, “Colorado Midland” “Burlington Route” and “Southern Pacific Route”. "H.W. Boyce, 1896 - Basalt, Colo" printed on bottom of card. Caption on back reads "What was left of No. 35 after she blew up on August 15, 1896. in the Basalt yards, where she was being used in switcher service. At 10:00 A.M., Engineer Danielson and his fireman parked her opposite the coal chute and went to eat lunch; the fireman was in the switch shanty and Danielson at the station when she blew up with a bang that could be heard for miles. After the junk stopped falling, they found a ton or two of boiler in a man's dooryard three blocks away, the firebox on the roundhouse tracks on the other side of the coal chutes and the front end not far from the wheels. A man and a little girl in different parts of town were hit but not badly injured by flying pieces."

The Adolph Coors Company brewery plant, Coors residence, gardens, and greenhouses, Golden, Colorado. The sign in foreground "The Home Of Coors Pure Malted Milk" is made of planted flowers. Coors was the world's largest producer of malted milk during the Prohibition era. Urban railroad tracks are along edge of slope, foothills and Mount Zion with the Colorado School of Mines "M" is in the background.

H. Zang Brewing Company, and a large hutch; a group of men are in the elevated back section of the bar, behind a banister, possibly the orchestra or band.

The extant smelter stack is the first of two identical stacks at the San Juan and New York Mining and Smelting Company (SJ&NY) plant in Durango. It stands at the south end of the site of the original plant. SJ&NY grew to become the largest smelting operation in the San Juan Mountain mining region, originally processing gold, silver, lead, and copper primarily for eastern manufacturing concerns. Beginning in the 1940s, the plant processed uranium for WWII research in Los Alamos, and post-war security programs. The stack, as part of the original smelter's operations, played and significant role in the industrial development of Durango and southwest Colorado.

Interior photograph of the Fitzsimons General Hospital Main building's first floor elevators, located in Aurora, Colorado. Built as a federally funded public works project during the 1930s, the Main Hospital Building (Building 500), at Fitzsimons General Hospital opened in 1941 on the grounds of the World War I era Fitzsimons General Hospital. Upon completion, is was the largest building in the state, the largest Army general hospital in the country, and the first important permanent building erected at Fitzsimons. An eight floor suite of rooms served as President Eisenhower's office and bedroom for seven weeks while he recuperated from a heart attack in 1955. The Main Hospital Building is an example of the Modernistic style developed by private architects. The building's architecture represented state-of-the-art construction for military general hospitals, reflected in the stepped and terraced plan which allowed maximum sunshine, fresh air, and scenic views. As the largest building in the state at the time of its construction, it quickly became a visual landmark in the region.
